The time to build SSV Oliver Hazard Perry is now!

We are asking for your generous charitable support today so that SSV Oliver Hazard Perry can be complete and commissioned by July 4, 2013.

Our Case for Support provides further details on the value and budget for this $6.6 million capital project. Over $4 million has been raised so we are very far along in our capital plan thanks to many individual, family, business and foundation donors!

Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island (OHPRI) maintains its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status so that your contribution is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. OHPRI acknowledges all contributions in a timely manner and as receipt for your tax deductible contribution. Pursuant to federal law, OHPRI has its financial statements audited each year.

There are several distinct Ways to Give to OHPRI and be recognized for your generosity. Time is of the essence to meet our commissioning schedule and thus we will be grateful for your thoughtful investment in one of the following ways:

Plank Owner

Naval tradition defines a Plank Owner as an individual who is a member of the crew when the ship is being built and commissioned. Our highly successful Plank Owner program was launched in 2009 for donors making a contribution of $1,000 to $10,000 over a one to two year period. Plank Owners are recognized on the OHPRI website Plank Owner Roster and provided with a distinct Plank Owner ball cap. Plank Owner specific events are planned each year for these very special donors to SSV Oliver Hazard Perry and we welcome your support as a Plank Owner!

Please download the Pledge Form to enlist as a Plank Owner today!

Shipbuilding Syndicate

Similar to the America's Cup 12-meter syndicates from 1958 to 1987, OHPRI has launched a Shipbuilding Syndicate program for donors of $25,000 to $500,000. Our Shipbuilding Syndicate Members are making significant investments into our Shipbuilding Plan for SSV Oliver Hazard Perry so that our ambitious construction schedule can be accomplished between now and July 2013. With commitments over one to five years, Shipbuilding Syndicate Members are offered permanent naming opportunities onboard SSV Oliver Hazard Perry and their own distinct Shipbuilding Syndicate ball cap, as well as other benefits.

Please contact Thomas P.I. Goddard, Fundraising Chair, at info@OHPRI.org to learn more about becoming a Shipbuilding Syndicate Member or download the Pledge Form today!

Marine Trades

SSV Oliver Hazard Perry is envisioned to be an ambassador to Rhode Island's world-class marine trade industry. Thus, we seek appropriate donations of products and services that help construct, operate and maintain this school ship from our marine trades. OHPRI has received several valuable Marine Trade donations to date and donors are recognized as Plank Owners or Shipbuilding Syndicate Members depending on the value of their donation. Boat Donations

OHPRI is partnered with Block Island Maritime Funding (BIMF), an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to accept Boat Donations from owners seeking a charitable tax deduction. BIMF will assist a yacht owner with the donation process, from appraisal to conveyance of title to BIMF, then will actively market your former yacht for charter and eventual sale. Proceeds of these transactions, minus processing expenses, significantly benefit OHPRI and SSV Oliver Hazard Perry. OHPRI has received several valuable boat donations to date and donors are recognized as Plank Owners or Shipbuilding Syndicate Members depending on the value of their yacht. We welcome your inquires by contacting OHPRI Vice Chairman Perry Lewis at lewis@ohpri.org

Annual Appeal

SSV Oliver Hazard Perry welcomes charitable contributions at all levels at any time. Our Annual Appeal raises essential support of our Buliod-Perry House office and public welcome center, as well as our education program plans, while our school ship is being constructed. Please make a contribution at a level you deem appropriate, and remember that a gift of $500 or more can enroll you as a Plank Owner if a second annual gift is made at the same level.

Auction Items

OHPRI holds a Reception and Auction each May at a distinguished Newport venue to raise significant funds for SSV Oliver Hazard Perry. Key to this event's success is its Silent and Live Auction for interesting, desirable and valuable art and nautical pieces, destination vacations, marine trade products and services, and other items that will be of interest to our audience. If you have a potential auction item to contribute, please contact info@OHPRI.org or call our office at (401) 841-0080.
